Tasks of the Department Council

Tasks of the Department Council:

  1. Develop the strategic plan of the department in line with the strategic plans of the college, including the following :
  • Scientific research strategy in the department .
  • The strategy of applying quality and academic accreditation in the department .
  •  Graduate Studies Strategy in the Department.
  • The strategy of the systematic and extracurricular student activity of the department.
  • Scholarship and training strategy for the department's employees .
  1. The study plan, curricula, textbooks, references and study schedules shall be proposed to the College Council in accordance with Article 43 of the Higher Education and Universities Council system and its implementing regulations.
  2. Recommending the scholarship of teaching assistants and lecturers in the department, extending them and terminating their scholarships .
  3. Recommending the approval of changing the scholarship student for his major, university, or country of study .
  4. Submit a report on the status of the department's scholarship students who are defaulting in their studies after half the period.
  5. Prepare a detailed annual report on the status of scholarship in the department to be submitted to the College Council.
  6. Recommending the approval of the scientific trip of the scholarship based on the recommendation of the supervisor, and the endorsement of the cultural attaché .
  7. To recommend suspending the scholarship student's allowances if he changes his major, university, or place of study without the approval of the Department Council, or if he is unable to continue studying according to the reports related to the progress of his studies, or if he violates the regulations or instructions, or refrains from implementing them, or if he does not obtain the required qualification within the specified period, or it is proven that he has stopped studying, or if he leaves the place of study without an acceptable excuse.
  8. Proposing the appointment, secondment, delegation, and promotion of faculty members, teaching assistants, and lecturers.
  9. Recommending appointment to the rank of assistant professor without the requirement to obtain a doctorate degree   In disciplines in which a doctorate degree is not granted in accordance with the controls specified in the rules and regulations .
  10. Recommending the disbursement of teaching units allowance if the number of teaching units for faculty members increases       And the like from within the university, for the prescribed quorum.
  11. Recommending that the faculty member obtain a sabbatical leave for a period of one academic year, after the lapse of five years from his appointment, or from enjoying a previous sabbatical leave, or for one semester after the lapse of three years from his appointment, or from enjoying a previous sabbatical leave.
  12. Consider the report submitted on the achievements of the faculty member during the sabbatical.
  13. Recommending the approval of the work of the faculty member as a part-time consultant, or renewal for him in government agencies, the private sector, or regional or international organizations .
  14. Recommending the approval of the participation of the faculty member in conferences and seminars held           Inside or outside the Kingdom.
  15. Recommending the employment of non-Saudi faculty members who have exceeded the upper age limit of sixty Gregorian years within ten years for professors and associate professors, five years for assistant professors, and three years for other categories.
  16. Recommending the faculty member to attend a scientific conference or symposium.
  17. Recommending the transfer of the faculty member and the like to and from the department.
  18. Recommending that the part-time professor be granted a remuneration equivalent to the first academic rank he was,       If he is not a former faculty member, the University Council determines the amount of the remuneration not exceeding the first rank of assistant professor..
  19. Recommending the use of non-employees of distinguished Saudi competencies from outside the university to carry out teaching.
  20. Recommending the assignment of a faculty member and the like to work for government agencies.
  21. Recommending the secondment of the services of the faculty member and the like.
  22. Recommending sending a faculty member on a scientific mission outside the university headquarters.
  23. Recommending sending a faculty member to teach outside the Kingdom.
  24. Recommending that a faculty member be allowed to travel to conduct research at a university other than his or her own during    Summer vacation.
  25. Considering the promotion of a faculty member, and nominating a number of specialized arbitrators whose number is not less than eight .
  26. Approving the equivalence of courses studied by the student outside the university in accordance with the executive rule of Article 42 of the Regulations of Study and Tests for the undergraduate stage.
  27. 28Recommending that the student study courses if the student completes the courses required for graduation and his average is less than 2
  28. Approval of the student completing the requirements of any course in the next semester based on        Recommendation of the subject teacher according to Article 25 of the study and tests regulations for the undergraduate stage.
  29. Approving the course reports, the annual report of the program and the self-study of the program.
  30. Setting admission and transfer controls to and from the department. .
  31. Propose the number of students to be accepted annually. .
  32. Proposing exam dates and setting regulations for conducting them.
  33. Propose determining the grade of semester work between 40% to 60% of the final grade of the course.
  34. Agreeing that the final exam of the courses will include a practical or oral test.
  35. Recommending the exclusion of seminar, research and practical courses from the tests  and estimates.
  36. Recommending limiting the duration of the final exam to at least one hour and not more than three hours
  37. Recommending the addition of conditions for admission to the master's or doctoral stages .
  38. Recommending the admission of students to study a master's or doctorate in a field other than his specialization.
  39. Recommending that the student be given one additional opportunity for one or two semesters as a maximum
  40. Recommending that the student be given an additional opportunity of no more than two semesters based on a report from the supervisor.
  41. Recommending the acceptance of transferring the student to the department from another recognized university, taking into account the conditions of transfer.
  42. Recommending the equivalency of the credits studied by the transfer student from another recognized university          her.
  43. Recommending the transfer of the student from one major to another within the university, taking into account the admission requirements and any other conditions that the department deems necessary.
  44. Propose the courses required to obtain the diploma and the title of the certificate.
  45. Recommending the approval of alternative tests and courses that require more than one semester in graduate courses.
  46. Recommending a comprehensive written and oral test held by a specialized committee according to specific rules for the graduate student after completing all the required courses.
  47. Recommending increasing the faculty member's supervision of scientific theses to five theses.
  48. Propose an alternative supervisor to the thesis in the event that the supervisor is unable to continue, dies, or his service at the university ends.
  49. Recommending the formation of a discussion committee on scientific theses.
  50. Recommending approval of the admission of those with a good grade in some graduate programs       In the department, provided that the student's average in all cases is not less than very good in the specialization courses for the undergraduate stage in accordance with the executive rule of Article 15 of the Graduate Studies Regulations .
  51. Recommending the identification of the supervisor of the student's thesis in graduate studies.
  52. Encouraging the preparation of scientific research.
